Forget ‘Elvis’. Check out Austin Butler’s new look for his role in the sequel to ‘Dune’

‘Dune: Part Two’ is since its announcement one of the most anticipated films of this 2023. To see the sequel that Denis Villeneuve has prepared will have to wait until autumnspecifically until On November 3.

However, that does not mean that during this time we have pills about the filming, news, announcements… And above all photographs, like the last one we have seen of the actor Austin Butler. The actor, who became known with his portrayal of El Rey in ‘Elvis’, seems to have left this stage behind. Now Butler, 31, is undergoing a new kind of transformation in his next big-screen role. And in every way.

Dune fans get their first look at Butler as Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen in the second part. The official accounts on the film’s social networks have shared images before the expected trailer is released.which will be released in the next few hours.

In the succulent preview it is seen how someone places a device in the sands of Arrakis. That before showing glimpses of each of the film’s main characters. Among them we see familiar faces, such as Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Javier Bardem, Josh Brolin or Dave Bautista, as well as Florence Pugh, whom we saw a few days ago characterized for her role. And as we say, there’s also good old Butler, who now doesn’t exactly sport a gelled toupee: he’s shaved his head and eyebrows for his new villain role.

In Villeneuve’s own words, “Austin Butler brought to the screen something that would be a cross between a psychotic, sociopathic serial killer and Mick Jagger.“. That mix results in Feyd-Rautha, a member of the Harkonnen clan who killed Duke Leto Atreides (Oscar Isaac) and destroyed the home of the protagonist Paul on Arrakis. “He is someone Machiavellian, much more cruel, much more strategic and more narcissistic,” the director said of the character, during a larger preview of the upcoming sci-fi epic.

Feyd-Rautha is the nephew of the Baron, the leader of the Harkonnen family played by Stellan Skarsgård in the first ‘Dune’, released in 2021, and younger brother of Bautista’s character, Rabban. Villeneuve recently told Vanity Fair that Feyd-Rautha is characterized as “a very intelligent and charismatic figure” compared to Rabban, whom the director described as “not very intelligent.”

Feyd-Rautha was previously played by singer Sting, in David Lynch’s 1984 adaptation of Dune..

In these latest images of the second Dune Christopher Walken does not appear as Emperor Shaddam IV, nor does Léa Seydoux, who is commissioned in the sequel to play Lady Margot. That does not mean that they can both appear in the full trailer that will be seen shortly, luckily for fans, both those of Villeneuve and those of Frank Herbert’s novel.

Butler has followed a meteoric career after the film directed by Baz Luhrmann and which earned him an Oscar nomination for Best Actor. He has earned the love and admiration of the public both for his work as The King of Rock as well as for his great appearances such as the emotional monologue he gave on Saturday Night Live.

In addition to the sequel to ‘Dune’, he also has other projects under the command of Jeff Nichols, ‘The Bikeriders’, alongside Tom Hardy, Jodie Comer and Michael Shannon, or the miniseries ‘Los amos del aire’, from the producers of ‘Blood Brothers’ and focused on the aviators of the Second World War.
