Dragon Ball returns to Toonami with the arrival of the iconic animated series, available on Amazon Prime Video with a Warner Pass subscription! However, the version offered is not the one that viewers of Club Dorothée grew up with, as the series is offered uncensored!
During its broadcast on TF1, Dragon Ball was stripped of many passages deemed inappropriate for a younger audience. In most cases, this is a sequence of violence, but this censorship also includes scenes, including heavy jokes, even passages of nudity.
We think, for example, of Master Roshi’s fascination with Bulma’s breasts, or Goku’s habit of going “puff-puff” to determine whether a character is a boy or a girl. Of course, jokes involving an old man and a teenage girl don’t sit as well today as they did when the program was conceived, if there ever was a time to tolerate such completely inappropriate humor.
But Dragon Ball is thankfully not limited to these few problematic sequences, and no doubt many early fans will be able to happily (re)discover the series without these censors.
Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero: We announce a new movie in the saga!
It will not be difficult to identify these censored passages, as they have never been dubbed into French and are therefore only offered in their original version with subtitles. So don’t be surprised if episodes of the series sometimes alternate between French and Japanese!
And what’s next in all of this? At the moment, the Dragon Ball Super series is also offered on Toonami. As for Dragon Ball Z, which also adapts the manga dragon ball By Akira Toriyama, but also its unofficial sequel Dragon Ball GT, this series is also available on Prime Video, but with a different signature of the specialized DNA platform!
Warner Pass owners can now find uncensored Dragon Ball anime for a limited number of unreleased viewers.
