The film based on the racing game series Gran Turismo won an official trailer on Tuesday (2). Based on the true story of Brit Jann Mardenborough, the film will show how a teenage fan of the franchise became a real professional race car driver.
Directed by Neill Blomkamp and written by Jason Hall and Zach Baylin, the film Gran Turismo It has big names in its cast such as David Harbor (Stranger Things), Orlando Bloom (Lord of the Rings and Pirates of the Caribbean), Archie Madekwe, Darren Barnet, Geri Halliwell Horner and Djimon Hounsou.
Gran Turismo is an acclaimed racing game series that has been marking generations since 1997. The game, distributed by Sony, is a PlayStation exclusive, being one of the best-selling titles of the brand. Recently, Polyphony Digital, developer of the franchise, revealed that they are already working on the eighth sequel to the game. Gran Turismo 7 was officially released in March 2022 for PS4 and PS5.
Breaking the curse of poor performance in video game adaptations, Sony believes Gran Turismo has the same potential as The Last of US, which premiered its serial version this year and has become one of HBO’s most-watched streams: the production has showed steady viewership growth, with the final episode topping the rest.
Gran Turismo is scheduled to premiere in Brazilian theaters on August 10, 2023.
