Treeback Project converts cashback from online purchases into Amazon treeback

Every R$50 spent in participating stores generates one seedling unit for deforestation-affected areas in Roraima

The chance to do internet shopping and recover part of the money, the so-called reimbursement, is one of the tools used in the market to attract and retain customers. But what if a percentage returned from a sale was reversed into seedlings for reforestation TO amazon? Combining the convenience of virtual commerce and sustainability actions is what drives the treeback projectdeveloped just over a year ago with a focus on caring for areas affected by deforestation in roraima.

The founder of the startup, Amaury Cerqueira, 53, has been involved in environmental conservation in general for a long time, and has used his technological knowledge to organize the company’s website and put it on the air. The initiative was contemplated, in 2021, by the Inova Amazônia acceleration call, launched by Sebrae for companies focused on the bioeconomy. “I saw a great opportunity to get the project off the ground, take a period to ramp up and try to get the business done,” he says.

The company’s most recent data, it says, shows a total of 20,000 trees have already been planted. The seedlings are present in riverine areas and indigenous territories. According to the entrepreneur, there is concern that, in addition to reforestation, the plants installed in the places could generate livelihoods for the residents. “We work with fruitful seedlings so that these communities can, in the future, make an income from them.”

Expansion

With an eye to the growing international interest in saving deforested areas in the Amazon, Amaury wants to bring the business model to the international market and should start partnerships with European countries. The plans also include operations on the carbon credit market and the use of technologies that allow customers to invest in reforestation using machinery in public spaces, such as transport stations and supermarkets. “Our main goal is to be able to reach more and more people, touching them with regards to the climate issue.”
