Johnny Depp returns to the cinema to shake up France: Jeanne du Barry wins the official trailer

Despite the controversy involving the actor in recent years, the feature film will be responsible for opening the Cannes Film Festival in 2023.

Johnny Depp’s new project already has an official trailer: the actor stars in Jeanne du Barry, a film that will open the next edition of the Cannes Film Festival about the mistress of King Louis XV.

At the court of Versailles

Jeanne du Barry tells the story of Jeanne, a commoner who uses her cunning to climb the social ladder and reach the court of Versailles. There she will meet the King of France and the two will end up falling in love, leaving a trail of rumors and scandals.

Maïwen (Polissia) writes, directs and stars in the film alongside Johnny Depp, who plays Louis XV. The cast also includes Pierre Richard (What if we all lived together?), Benjamin Lavernhe (Such is life), Noémie Lvovsky (Chocolate), Melvil Poupaud (Thank God), India Hair and Pascal Greggory (Un beau matin).

The film is Johnny Depp’s first project following the controversial trial of Amber Heard and was chosen to open the 76th Cannes Film Festival on May 16. This French costume drama comes three years after DNA, the director’s last feature, but we’ll still have to wait to see the film, as there are no predictions for a Brazilian premiere.
