The true story of a memorable hoax… in second grade
Lin (Chutimon Chungcharoensuking) is determined not to let her father’s poverty hinder her ambitions. A brilliant student, a young girl is selected to join a prestigious school, all expenses paid thanks to a scholarship. Among his wealthy comrades, Lin stands out for his strange abilities, as does his rival Bank (Chanon Santinatornkul).
When he meets Grace (Isaiah Hosuwan) and Pat (Teradon Supapunpinyo), they offer him a daring deal: to create a giant fraud scheme that he would be the brains of and for which he would be paid. Hesitant at first, Lynn allows herself to be persuaded by the influx of “prospects.” This is the beginning of a great fraud, the benefits of which will quickly be overshadowed by consequences that Lin and his friends did not dare to imagine…
A music paper-like staging
Inspired by a true story, Lin and his team’s scam relies on some cleverly thought-out springboards to keep us going. The most obvious example: the use of classical music, the notes of which are played in the corner of the table, allows the first in the class to indicate the correct answers to his companions.
Like the tunes of Mozart and Beethoven, Bad Genius’ sometimes serious, sometimes playful melody unfolds over 2 hours, which passes faster than the last 5 minutes of the assignment on the table.

Millimeter wise, the talented Nattawut Punipiriya’s staging (For One Road, The Innkeeper, Saving the Impossible) presents a certain number of variations on the theme of deception.
Close-up views of the threads of the pencils cutting the paper, the student’s trembling hands, the head’s curious gaze; Wide shots of an exam hall full of feverish students, the horizon to which Lin longed to escape… The student filmmaker stretches and stretches deftly, as if imitating the invisible vice Lin is a prisoner of, and sometimes manages, with little difficulty, to escape with the tips of his fingers touched his dreams.
