Moscow Says US Behind Kremlin Drone Attack; Russian forces target Kiev

Russia said Thursday the United States was behind what it said was a drone strike on the Kremlin aimed at killing Russian President Vladimir Putin, as Moscow forces fired multiple combat drones at Ukrainian cities, including the capital Kiev.

Putin’s spokesman Dmitry Peskov, without providing evidence, said that Ukraine acted on US orders with the alleged drone attack on the Kremlin citadel in the early hours of Wednesday.

Kiev has denied involvement in the crash, which followed a series of explosions last week against freight trains and oil depots in western Russia and Russian-controlled Crimea. Moscow has also blamed Ukraine for these attacks.

“Attempts to deny this (Kremlin attack), both in Kiev and in Washington are, of course, absolutely ridiculous. We know very well that decisions about such actions, about these terrorist attacks, are made not in Kiev, but in Washington, ” Peskov told reporters.

The Kremlin has said it reserves the right to retaliate. Peskov said on Thursday that an urgent investigation was underway and that any response would be carefully weighed and balanced.

Separately, Russia’s foreign ministry said the alleged drone strike “should not go unanswered” and that it showed Kiev was unwilling to end the 15-month war at the negotiating table.

KIEV AND ODESSA AS A GOAL

Earlier, Russia launched two dozen combat drones against Ukraine, hitting Kiev for the third time in four days and also hitting a university campus in the Black Sea city of Odessa ahead of a major Ukraine counteroffensive. to reclaim the occupied land.

There were no reports of casualties.

Kyiv’s city administration said Russia likely launched ballistic missiles and drones, but all of them were shot down.

Ballistic missiles are difficult to shoot down, and their downing could indicate that Ukraine has been using sophisticated Western-supplied air defense systems.

In total, the air defenses shot down 18 of 24 “kamikaze” drones in the pre-dawn attack, officials said. Of the 15 drones fired at Odessa, 12 were shot down, but three hit a university campus, according to the Southern Military Command.
