A Federal Police (ET) set a new date for the testimony of the former Minister of Justice, Anderson Torres, on the operations of the Federal Traffic Police (PRF) in the elections. It will be held next Monday, 8, at 14:30.
The first deposition was postponed at the request of the defense. The lawyers presented a psychiatric report and said the former minister was unable to answer the questions.
The investigation is conducted by delegate Flávio Reis. He investigates whether there has been an attempt to use the PRF to make it difficult for voters to move to President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva’s (PT) strongholds, especially in the northeast.
Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the Supreme Federal Court (STF), ordered the PF to reschedule the testimony after the federal district government ruled out the transfer of Anderson Torres to the correctional hospital. The assessment was that the former minister is in ‘good general condition’.
Moraes said Torres was “properly evaluated” by a doctor and had his meds adjusted. The dispatch acknowledges that the former minister is not obliged to answer questions and can remain silent if he prefers.
“Let the management of the prison where Anderson Gustavo Torres is located be able to provide the necessary conditions for his hearing, including through the police escort for evacuation,” wrote Moraes.
Anderson Torres was held in pre-trial detention for more than 100 days in an investigation into the role of the authorities in the protests against the January 8 coup.
He has already made two statements since his arrest. The first, conducted by the Federal Police, concerned vandalism in Praça dos Três Poderes and lasted ten hours. The second interrogation, on the coup draft seized from his home, was requested by the Superior Electoral Court (TSE).
