Track being hit on TikTok was removed by Spotify after copyright infringement
This Wednesday (3), the track “little love”In treyceis no longer part of the Spotify catalog, after ongoing negotiations with the Nelly Furtado. The Brazilian singer is in conversation with the Canadian singer’s team for an alleged copyright infringement.
According to G1, the producers of Treyce’s song used a sample of Nelly Furtado’s song “Say It Right”. The track was a hit in the 2000s. This way, they would offer 30% of the rights to the Canadian singer.
However, the international star’s team did not like the decision at all. Now, Nelly Furtado’s representatives are asking for 100% of the royalties, plus a US$40,000 (roughly R$200,000) fine, for using the track without permission.
José Diamantino, director of Sony Music, which represents Nelly Furtado, explained that there was no prior authorization for the use of the sample. Thus the producers of the original song charged the rights two months ago and negotiations began.
On the other hand, VinÃcius Pinheiro, from Treyce’s team, said that Nelly Furtado’s team did not open up. They warned that the song would be removed from the air last week, and that’s what happened this Wednesday (3). So Sony imposed 0% copyright and a $40,000 fine, which Treyce’s team disagreed with.
