The leaked file from the tech giant claims that neither Google nor OpenAI can win the race against open source AI initiatives
An internal document of Googleleaked this week, revealed that the company is concerned about the relevance of artificial intelligence (AI) it is developing, the news agency said. Bloomberg this Thursday, 4. According to the report, made by Luke Sernaua senior engineer at the company, the company is losing ground to open source initiatives, which provide free software on the Internet.
The file was leaked in late April on Google’s internal forums but became public this week, posted by the research firm Semi-analysiswho verified the integrity of the document.
In one of the analyzes, the engineer claims that Google and OpenAI, company responsible for the development of ChatGPTthey have a competitive edge to compete with open source initiatives.
“We look behind OpenAI a lot. Who will cross the next milestone? What will be the next step?” Sernau says in the report, regarding the dispute between the two companies. “The inconvenient truth is that we are not in a position to win this race and neither is OpenAI. As we fought, a third faction quietly ate our lunch.”
For Sernau, the main problem is that while Google tries to develop large artificial intelligence projects, trying to drive the technology, the small tools and software made available by various initiatives conquer the programmers and, consequently, gain space faster among the fan — as well as not needing to be connected with subscription plans, for example.
“We don’t have a secret sauce,” Sernau wrote. “Our greatest hope is to learn and collaborate with what others are doing outside of Google.”
After disclosure, the Bloomberg tried to contact Sernau, but received no response from the engineer.
Driven by the success of ChatGPT, Google announced in February the launch of its intelligent chatbot, called Bard. The service, however, is not yet globally available to users.
Bard is powered by LaMDA (Language Model for Dialogue Applications), a chatbot from Google that made headlines last year when a company engineer claimed the system had developed awareness, something both the company and experts have refuted.
