PT is in London for the coronation of King Charles III
President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva started his visit to London this Friday (5) and met the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Rishi Sunak, in the Downing Street residence, the day before attending the coronation of King Charles III .
During the meeting, Sunak announced that the UK will be the fourth country to contribute to the Amazon Fund. The value of the aid has not yet been made official, but the local press assumes that the donation is valued at R$ 500 million.
“Besides football, we have a lot in common. Economic relations, trade flow and climate change. I am pleased to announce on this occasion that we will invest in the Amazon Fund, and all this thanks to your work and your fight. It is a great pleasure to have you here “said the British prime minister.
In turn, the petist said that his trip to the country aims to “try to restore normality in relations between Brazil and the United Kingdom”. According to him, relations are good, but “definitely” below what is possible in commercial matters.
“The country has been isolated for six years. Now we want to resume the discussion on trade first, there are enormous possibilities to increase the flow”, added Lula, hoping for a resumption of the relationship and strengthening environmental commitments.
Before the meeting, the Brazilian government had already anticipated that Lula and Sunak would discuss some specific issues, such as trade between countries, technological cooperation and environmental issues.
In addition to the PT member, the Brazilian delegation also includes the presence of the first lady, Janja Lula da Silva, and the special adviser to the presidency, Celso Amorim.
Lula traveled to England to attend the coronation of the successor of Queen Elizabeth II, who died on September 8, 2022, next Saturday (6), in Westminster Abbey. Subsequently, at the invitation of the king, you will participate in a meeting reserved for heads of state.
Today, however, the agenda includes the presence of the PT at a reception organized by the British royal family at Buckingham Palace for the foreign delegations present in the country for the ceremony. .
