FOTOGRAMAS travels to the Californian city of Anaheim to attend the event in which Disney and Lucasfilm will announce their long-awaited roadmap for upcoming Star Wars movie and television releases.
Three years after the last edition held in Chicago and after an endless and exhausting period of time that since 2019 has kept our level of midichlorians on the ground due to a pandemic that not even the most veteran of the Jedi Council knew how to intuit, the engines of Disney and Lucasfilm roar again in Anaheim (Los Angeles) with the celebration of the Star Wars Celebration 2022, the world’s largest event of the factory created by George Lucas more than 40 years ago and in which both companies will develop and present their roadmap for the coming years. FOTOGRAMAS has been one of the Spanish media chosen to travel to the Californian city and report everything that happens in an event that for four days, from May 26 to 29, will become the nerve center for all the acolytes of the most iconic (and distant) galaxy of popular culture of the last century; a showcase of novelties and revelations through which the fandom most devoted sheathed in cosplay of wookies, mandalorians, togrutas and stormtroopers, and in which We will see the most visible faces of the Disney and Lucasfilm delegation led by Katheleen Kennedy, John Favreau and David Filoni.
In the galactic gossip, in those backstage conversations in canteens and dejarikthis Anaheim convention is spoken of as a turning point in the future of the franchise and a sensation of informative bombings hovers in the environment. At the cinematographic level, an event is expected that will bring down to earth the next Star Wars projects for the big screen, dispelling doubts related to some previously announced films that are far from the Skywalker saga: Have they been definitively canceled? the new trilogy by Rian Johnson and the feature film by Patty Jenkins or is it a temporary break due to schedule incompatibilities? What about the long-awaited film by Taika Waititi based on the Star Wars universe? Will we hear about Kevin Feige’s plans, one of the architects of the marvelite success of recent years, in the organization chart of Lucasfilm? What group of actors will take taking over from the generation of Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, John Boyega and Oscar Isaac? What timeline will you bet on for the next releases in theaters?
After the controversial outcome of ‘The rise of Skywalker’ (JJ Abrams, 2019) that put an end to an irregular and ambivalent trilogy that showed the seams of a Disney capable of the best and the worst in its messianic task of embracing the legacy of George Lucas after the purchase of Lucasfilm in 2012, very polarized by the fandom (some sector of it very toxic, closer to the philosophy hooligan than to human logic), blinded by unforeseen events and devoid of coherent plots, an uncomfortable and thunderous silence prevailed in the Star Wars cinematographic orbit that would soon be buried by the unexpected success of Din Djarin and Gorgu. “This is the way,” proclaimed ‘The Mandalorian’. And John Favreau’s serial gem for Disney+ pointed out the direction that the new expansion phase of the franchise should take: a return to the most artisanal origins, an adult and intelligent sense of humor, well-measured doses of nostalgia in vein, the irruption of new characters with an overwhelming charisma and an exciting concept of adventure, of the classic galactic epic. From its first two seasons were born ‘The Book of Boba Fett’ and ‘Ahsoka’ (in production by his creative father, Dave Filoni), and his television success inspired and fueled Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen Return to Their Original Prequel Characters in ‘Obi Wan Kenobi’a series directed by Deborah Chow that, a few hours after the premiere of its first two episodes, promises to give us THE COMBAT OF THE CENTURY between a Darth Vader besieged by hatred, suffering and the shadows of the dark side, and an old Jedi hermit who is looking for protect the Rebel Alliance’s next great hope in exile on the sands of Tatooine.
Anaheim’s Star Wars Celebration 2022 is expected to influence this catalog of television fictions premiered on Disney + and resolve some unknowns about the next series of the franchise: Will we see the first images of the third season of ‘The Mandalorian’? What can we expect from ‘Andor’, the prequel to ‘Roge One’ starring Diego Luna’s character? Will there be news of ‘The Acolyte’, the first series on the genesis of the dark side in the last days of the High Republic? Will new data from ‘Ahsoka’ with Rosario Dawson be revealed? Will there be more seasons of ‘Obi Wan Kenobi’ or will we see the revival of Hayden Christensen with a new series for Darth Vader? Will the Lando Calrissian series with Donald Glover and the new episodes of ‘Star Wars: Visions’ be confirmed?
Very attentive to all the news, announcements and confirmations that come to us from Anaheim. Jumping into hyperspace in 3, 2, 1…
