In Chile the Brazilian beats his compatriot and wins the first challenger title of his career

In the Brazilian final of the Challenger in Coquimbo, played on Saturday, São Paulo’s Matheus Pucinelli overcame Pernambuco’s João Lucas Reis with runs of 7/6 (7-1), 6/7 (4-7) and 6/4. Thus, after a 3h27 battle, the tennis player won the first title of this level in his career.

It was a match fought and defined down to the smallest detail, after two tie breaks, a break in the third set and five match points. “A very tough match, very long, very demanding mentally, but in which the two managed to play well under the pressure of the final,” assessed Pucinelli.

Interestingly, the two finalists of the Chilean tournament are from Team RTB. “It was a very special moment to play against João, who is my friend. I am very happy with this result,” described Pucinelli, pleased with his first challenger title.

“I played well in the first set tie-break. Then I had my chances in the second. In the third I was able to adapt my game tactically and opened 5/1. João also raised the bar again, but I mentally I was in the match, I conquered an important point in 5/4 and I won”, analyzed the tennis player, who should take the 247th position in the ATP ranking.
