20 years! It has been twenty years since the last part of the “Lord of the Rings” saga, signed by Peter Jackson, appeared on our screens. In 2003, The Return of the King ended the quest of Frodo, Sam, Aragorn and others for two years waiting for an epic conclusion.
The increasingly menacing armies of Sauron the Terrible, the ring breaking on poor Frodo, Gollum always in sight, Gondor without a king… the stakes are high for this final episode, which lasts (in the long version) 263 minutes, which is still 4 hours and 23 minutes. It had to be!
After the first introductory opus, and then the second very focused on war, Peter Jackson for the third time changes the final intimate moments and those spectacular encounters that are more impressive than Helm’s deep seen in The Two Towers. Managing to find the right tone and perfect alternation between the two atmospheres, Return of the King delivers on all its promises!
JRR Tolkien fans may argue that Return to the Shire is gone and that Saruman’s death is a problem, the film is a public triumph bringing in $1.14 billion and for France alone, the film has a total of 7.39 million visitors!
The Academy of Oscars also responds to Peter Jackson’s feature film by awarding it with 11 nominations, of which it will win! Accordingly, it equals the previous record of 11 statues of Titanic and Ben-Hur.

Gifted with a colossal budget, shooting three films back-to-back, one day overseeing the shooting of one film and the post-production of another, it’s a titanic job for the New Zealand filmmaker. Looking back 20 years, it’s clear that Return of the King remains a crazy project and daydream for most Tolkien fans. Great movie.
