In 1962, French TV anchor Jacques Angelvin was arrested in the United States driving a Buick that was hiding more than 50 kg of heroin. However, the driver continues to maintain his innocence.

It is from this story that Gérard Oury is inspired by his fourth feature film, entitled Le Corniaud. Ready to move into pure and hard comedy, the director takes the canvas of a mule used by a gangster without his knowledge and constructs their adventure with two specific actors in mind.

Antoine Maréchal, the titular Corneux, is interpreted by Burville, an eternal commoner then at the height of his career, while the villainous Léopold Saroyan is camped by Louis de Funes, who is experiencing a meteoric rise in popularity at the same time.

The alchemy of these two pure monsters of French comedy, who have already played opposite each other in Poisson d’Avril, Les Hussards and La Traversée de Paris, works perfectly. Corny It was a huge success when it was released, and by 1965 it had established itself at the top of the French box office, with a total of almost 12 million releases.

Now iconic, this road movie that takes us to the Mediterranean coast offers plenty of hilarious moments between the 2CV ending up in spare parts, iconic replicas, incredible renovations and a shower sequence with de Funes comparing his build to a fat man. What happiness!
