Stranger Things fans will have to wait longer to find out about the fifth and final season of Netflix’s flagship show, which is still in its early stages and has been delayed due to a writers’ strike. Indeed, as Variety and Deadline report, faced with the prospect of shooting without a scriptwriter on set, the Duffer brothers have decided to make the film, as they announced on Twitter a few hours ago.
“Here the Duffers. The writing doesn’t stop once the shooting starts. While we are excited to begin production with our amazing cast and crew, this is not possible during this strike. We hope a fair settlement can be reached soon so we can all get back to work. Until then – done. #wgastroc”
So it seems that the writing of the final season, which began in August 2022, shortly after the premiere of the fourth season, has been completed, but, according to the creators of the show, the shooting will be without writers on the set. Not an option – scripts are often reworked during production.
The platform’s star series now joins a growing group of Netflix series like Big Mouth and Cobra Kai facing production delays and hiatuses due to the ongoing writers’ strike.
As for the final season, Matt Duffer told Deadline last year that the main goal was to “take off.”
The characters will already be in action, they will already have a purpose and motivation, and I think it should take at least a few hours to make this season really different. I’m sure the conclusion will be much longer, it will be “Return of the King” with eight endings.
What will happen next? Stranger Things ? As soon as we say goodbye to the series, we can expect two future projects: a prequel in the form of a play, which will be presented in late 2023 in London, and an animated series that takes place in the same world, produced by Matthew And Ross Duffer, alongside Sean Levy and Dan Cohen.
In the meantime, the first four seasons of the show will be available exclusively on Netflix.
