The race against breast cancer has attendance records in Italy

More than 70,000 people participated in the initiative in Rome

More than 70,000 people gathered this Sunday (7) in Rome, the capital of Italy, to participate in the 24th edition of the Race for the Cure, the largest global event in the fight against breast cancer.

With a record attendance, the race colored the most evocative places of the “eternal city” pink, starting with the Circus Maximus, to raise awareness among women of disease prevention.

The main protagonists of the health, sport and solidarity event were the “women in pink” – women who are facing or have faced breast cancer and who over the years have generated a cultural change in the approach to the disease, transferring strength and hope to the 56 thousand women who face breast cancer every year in Italy.

This year, in addition to the traditional 2 km walk and 5 km run open to all, the race has for the first time included an 8 km route reserved for competitive athletes.

“The Race for the Cure is an event that has strength and gives strength.

We have achieved an extraordinary result and we are already working on the 25th edition. We have been very careful to use resources in a transparent way, helping many young researchers and generating countless projects: the most important is the Caravan of Prevention”, said Riccardo Masetti, founder of Komen Italy, organizer of the event.

Among those present at the official inauguration were the Minister of Sport and Youth, Andrea Abodi, the President of the Italian National Olympic Committee (CONI), Giovanni Malagò, and the Deputy Governor of the Lazio Region, Roberta Angelilli.

“I’ve seen the Race for the Cure grow since its inception, it’s an event that conveys an extraordinary message of prevention,” said Malagò.

In just over 20 years Komen Italia, also thanks to the Race for the Cure, has managed to raise, among the many goals, more than 23 million euros to offer free diagnostic tests for the prevention of breast cancer and other oncological pathologies to 180,000 women and establish 72 multi-year study awards for young clinicians and researchers. .
