Have you discovered them all?
‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’ makes us reach for the stars again… and handkerchiefs.
The third installment is announced as the end of Gunn’s stage in Marvel before taking charge of the renewed DC Universe. Also, the end of ‘Guardians of the Galaxy 3’ means the end of the road for the current lineup of heroes.
Like all good ending the sci-fi trilogy is packed with easter eggsmemories of his previous adventures and references to the UCM in general.
On the occasion of the film’s premiere, we have delved into the finale to select our favorite easter eggs and references from ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’, a perfect complement to Chris Pratt’s favorite scene in the ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ trilogy. the Galaxy’.
Of course, the text below is full of spoilers
1. Cameos
‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’ is a who’s who of Gunn’s acquaintances, which includes Michael Rooker coming back as Yondu Udonta already Nathan Fillion like Master Karja. The protagonist of ‘Firefly’, one of the best science fiction series in history, voiced the “Blue Alien Prisoner” in the first installment of Guardians and was supposed to play Simon Williams/Wonder Man in the second volume until his cameo was scrapped.
Besides, Jennifer Holland, Gunn’s wife and star of Peacemaker, one of the best HBO Max series, plays Administrator Kwol at OrgoCorp. She’s just one of the actresses James Gunn has brought to the MCU from DC.
In its original version, we can listen to Judy Greer, from ‘Ant-Man’, to voice the demonic War Pig. Kraglin (Sean Gunn) plays poker with The Trader (Christopher Fairbank) from the first film, and Howard the Duck also appears in charge of Seth Green.
The big cameo is Linda Cardellini, who voices Lylla the space otter. Having worked with Cardellini on the live-action ‘Scooby-Doo’ films, Gunn cast her as Rocket’s tragic love interest.
It’s not Cardellini’s first time in the MCU, and while it’s unlikely she’ll return as Lylla, rumors that Hawkeye’s Laura Barton could take on the role of Mockingbird suggests she could return.
2. Star-Lord’s Mistake
While trying to escape from the OrgoCorp headquarters, Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) recaps his journey so far, with an introduction to how he once lost his temper and almost managed to destroy half the galaxy.
When ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ was released, there was outrage that Quill was driven insane by the death of Gamora (Zoe Saldaña) and prevented the Guardians from stopping Thanos. This caused the Mad Titan to seize the time gem and strike down half the galaxy. Along with Drax (Dave Bautista), Mantis (Pom Klementieff) and Groot (Vin Diesel), Quill was one of those who paid the price and spent five years in a literal way.
Even the Russo brothers admitted that the Infinity Saga could have ended there if it weren’t for Star-Lord’s emotions got the best of him.. Although there are those who argue that Quill did it for the greater good, it is clear that it is something that still weighs on him. Just when you think we’re done with that debate, the third volume drags us right back into it.
3. The original Guardians
Gunn decided to use the “modern” Guardians for his big screen debut in 2014. Although Yondu had a presence as an original member of the 1969 team, the first film focused heavily on the 2008 Star-Lord roster.
One of the great topics of conversation Vol 2 was the debut of the original Guardians to mourn the death of Yondu. This included the Stakar Ogord of Sylvester Stallone, to Martinex T’Naga by Michael Rosenbaum, to Charlie-27 from Ving Rhames, to Michelle Yeoh as Ogord finstill Krugarr silent and Miley Cyrus as the voice of Mainframe.
Stallone has repeated in this sequel along with part of the original team. They remain Ravagers instead of being promoted to full-fledged Guardians, with changes meaning Aleta and Charlie-27 do not appear, while Tara Strong stands in for Cyrus.
Since Saldana has said she’s done playing Gamora, the fact that she’s coming out with the comic book originals suggests this might be the last time we see the old guard.
4. I am Groot
Vin Diesel hasn’t exactly been a man of many words in the MCU, which means he’s arguably one of the franchise’s highest-paid stars for doing the bare minimum as Groot. More than the fact that Groot learns to speak, the theory grows among the fandom that we, the public, can finally understand him.
Gunn has previously said that understanding the towering tree stems from a psychic connection to Groot, and in the final scene of Vol. 3, there’s an emotional farewell between the team before they go their separate ways. Alternate Timeline Gamora Gets Understanding Grootconfirming that they have bonded through their adventure.
As he says goodbye, Groot appears to say, “Love you guys.” Unlike the long-awaited first words of the Grogu from ‘The Mandalorian’, the prolonged silence and wide-angle shot hint that we (the audience) can finally understand Groot.
5. The Captain Marvel Connection
In an unexpected revelation, the white-haired girl who is part of the “perfect” race of the High Evolutionary (Chukwudi Iwuji) is revealed as a character potentially important.
The first post-credits scene includes a renewed team of Guardians with cosmo (Maria Bakalova) and Adam Warlock (Will Poulter). also joins to the team the mysterious girl known as Phyla.
Those up to date with the comics will know that Phyla-Vell is an important part of the 2008 Guardians team and also has ties to Captain Marvel. The Vell’s lineage is complicated, as Phyla-Vell is usually the sister of Genis-Vell and the daughter of Mar-Vell of the Kree. In the MCU, Mar-Vell was gender-swapped as Annette Bening’s version of 2019’s Captain Marvel.
Phyla-Vell’s origin in the comics varies depending on which era of the comics you take as canon. Since his introduction in Captain Marvel vol. 5 #16 from 2004, Vell has taken on the mantles of Captain Marvel, Quasar, and Martyr, which means she could fit into any number of future MCU projects.
On the other hand, her young age and renewed origin story could keep her out of Nia DaCosta’s ‘The Marvels’.
6.Kevin Bacon
It seems like only yesterday that we were preparing for the premiere of the ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Happy Holidays Special’, which served as the starting point for the third volume. In one of the most outrageous cameos in the MCU, Kevin Bacon played himself.
The third volume features the return of our favorite “bad dog,” Cosmo, featured in that same special. Unfortunately, Bacon isn’t up to his old tricks again, but as a former student of Gunn’s Christmas special and ‘Super’, he is at least mentioned in the post-credits scene.
As Quill enjoys some quality time with his grandfather on Earth, a newspaper headline says: “Alien Abduction: Kevin Bacon Tells It All”.
7. Legendary Star-Lord
Big names like Bautista, Saldana, and Sean Gunn have all said they’re done with their roles, which seems to end the story for a lot of Guardians.
Although it would be easy to leave Quill enjoying cereal with his grandfather on Earth, the post-credits scene of ‘Guardians of the Galaxy 3’ ends with a title that tells us: “The Legendary Star-Lord Will Return”. Similar to the one seen in ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’ from “Thor Will Return”, which confirms that Pratt will appear later.
Interestingly, ‘The Legendary Star-Lord’ is the name of the character’s solo comic series, which suggests that he might go it alone next time. Bautista proposed a Drax spin-off, while Gunn recently said that Marvel had canceled a Rocket and Groot movie, meaning solo adventures for the characters have already been thought of.
In any case, this hint seems to lead to more than just a cameo in some Earth-based adventures like ‘Secret Invasion’. Whether confirming Star-Lord for the upcoming ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ or branching out on his own for a possible Disney+ series, Gunn’s departure from the MCU doesn’t mean Star-Lord is going anywhere, at least. still.
