Stranger Things: the writers’ strike interrupts the production of the last season

In addition to Blade and Cobra Kai, another big success is hampered by the Hollywood writers’ strike: The production of the fifth and final season of the Netflix series Stranger Things had to be stopped.

The announcement was made by co-creators of the work, Matt Duffer and Ross Duffer, known as the Duffer brothers, on Twitter.

“Hopefully a fair deal will be reached soon so we can all get back to work. Until then, we’re out.”

Announced in April, the strike began on Tuesday (2), with the approval of 98% of the members of the Writers Guild of America (WGA, its acronym in English), according to the newspaper The New York Timesafter failed pay raise negotiations with production studios such as Walt Disney, Amazon and Netflix.

The shutdown, which affects a total of 11,000 workers, has also had repercussions on television programs, such as talk shows and the entertaining “Saturday Night Live”. Such attractions are expected to resort to reruns as long as the situation remains a no-deal.

This is the first strike in the category in 15 years. Last time, the shutdown lasted 100 days and cost the California economy $2.1 billion, as well as crippling film and television productions.

According to the category, the streaming revolution, with shorter TV seasons, hurt the salaries of workers, who had lower residual payments.

For its part, the AMTPT (Alliance of Film and Television Producers), which represents some studios, said it had offered “generous hikes” during the deal.

In a statement, the body said that among the main points of disagreement were proposals that “require a company to hire a certain number of writers for a program for a certain period of time, whether or not it is necessary or less”.

Another point in trading is the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI). The WGA wants a guarantee that studios don’t use the feature to create scripts based on previous work.
