The ‘Inglourious Basterds’ actor has been accused of abuse by 50 people in his latest film

German actor, director and producer Til Schweiger (“Inglourious Basterds”) has been accused of violent behavior by 50 professionals who worked on his latest film. According to the German magazine Der Spiegel, the star had several fits of anger and verbal attacks during the filming of the comedy “Manta, Manta — Zwoter Teil”, which he directed.

Known for playing Hugo Stiglitz in Quentin Tarantino’s “Inglourious Basterds” (2009), Schweiger had at least one case of physical violence on the set of the new film. On the occasion, the actor punched someone in the face who questioned his ability to direct. The allegations raised concerns about the culture of abuse in Hollywood and the film industry at large.

Again according to the magazine, Schweiger’s behavior is said to be the “biggest secret” of cinema in Germany, where he carries a weighty name. The assault cases would have been frequent for over a decade, but they have increased as the professional has become more famous.

Actress Caroline Peters (“Walking On Water”) was relieved to see the information went public. “Finally it will be discussed in public. People, from now on, will not have to deal with this behavior alone,” the actress told Der Spiegel. Furthermore, German Culture Minister Claudia Roth called for the allegations to be subject to a rigorous investigation.

Schweiger denied everything and accused the publication of rehashing old rumors that had already been debunked. The actor’s attorney also criticized the magazine for publishing the allegations without giving Schweiger an opportunity to defend himself.

In addition to “Inglourious Basterds” (2009), the professional starred in “Atomica” (2017), alongside Charlize Theron, “Guerra é Guerra!” (2012), with Reese Witherspoon, Chris Pine and Tom Hardy, and “Lara Croft: Tomb Raider – Origin of Life” (2003), with Angelina Jolie.
