Now yes! With two consecutive games of ‘goals to nil’, Palmeiras overcomes a bad defensive phase

Palmeiras’ bad defensive moment was left behind. After going through a period of instability in defense, Abel Ferreira’s team managed to last two games in a row without suffering losses: against Barcelona-EQU, for the Libertadores, and Goiás, for the Brasileirão.

In Ecuador, Verdão achieved an important victory for the continental competition: 2 – 0, with goals from Raphael Veiga and Gustavo Gómez. For the national team he disputed consecutive points, beaten on Esmeraldino by a score of 5 to 0.

Before the good sequence, the problem of alvigreen defense was evident. In the nine games preceding the Guayaquil game, Palmeiras conceded in eight – the only exception being the second final of the Paulista Championship against Água Santa, which finished 4-0.

The negative sequence reached six consecutive matches conceding a goal: the third time it happened with Verdão under the command of Abel Ferreira.

Now, Palmeiras are once again on track to be a “defense that no one can get past”. It remains to be seen if the match against Grêmio, at 21:30 (Brasilia time) this Wednesday (10) at the Allianz Parque, for the 5th round of the Brasileirão, will prove if the problems are actually resolved.
