After draw with Fortaleza, Cicinho says Corinthians fans “don’t win matches anymore”

Corinthians did not match the 36,000 crowd at the Neo Química Arena on Monday. The club received Fortaleza, in a match valid for the fourth round of the Brazilian championship, and only drew 1-1.

Despite the support of the public, the team was unable to turn the game around and continued without a win under coach Vanderlei Luxemburgo. For the commentator Cicinho, the strength of the fans no longer makes the difference as before in the stands.

“Corinthians must change this discourse that ‘the crowd wins games’. Corinthians fans no longer win games. The fans play their role, but Corinthians no longer win the game. What Corinthians needs it’s a team,” he said on the show SBT arena.

With four points earned so far, Timão appears in 15th place. The club started on the right foot in the Brasileirão, opening with a 2-1 win over Cruzeiro, but then suffered back-to-back defeats, one against Goiás and another against Palmeiras.

Against Fortaleza, Corinthians came from behind in the table. In the second half, Caio Alexandre received a backheel from Silvio Romero and finished on the edge of the area, leaving goalkeeper Cássio with no chance.

Finally, Róger Guedes crossed into the box, Fernando Miguel fumbled through Bruno Pacheco and the ball was cleared up for Yuri Alberto to score and close the tally.

Corinthians are back on the field this Thursday, when they will face leaders Botafogo. The teams play each other from 19:00 (Brasilia time), at the Estádio Nilton Santos.
