Stefano Bonaccini has had a busy schedule in the country
By Patrizia Antonini – Emilia-Romagna, the only Italian region that can boast a university based in Buenos Aires and the first territory in the country for exports to Argentina, strengthens its ties with the South American country where it promotes its production system and look for new professional talent for their companies.
This is the meaning of the mission of the delegation led by Governor Stefano Bonaccini, engaged in a busy calendar of commitments in the capital Buenos Aires, where it met companies, institutions, academic realities and a representation of 25 regional associations present in the country, as well as more than 30,000 persons linked to the Ferrari territory by origin or descent.
But the projects don’t end there. As early as next year, Buenos Aires could host the Emilia-Romagna Cuisine Week around the world (the 2023 edition takes place in Japan) and depending on the political conditions (for this reason, the forthcoming electoral dispute will be decisive) forge new institutional agreements.
On the other hand, the relationship between Emilia-Romagna and Argentina is very ancient. The Bologna school, Alma Mater, opened its headquarters in the country in 1998, and in 2016 Bonaccini himself traveled to the country to create a dense network of relationships, and an agreement with the province of Buenos Aires.
A dialogue that continued thanks also to an agreement signed in 2019 with the local Ministry of Health, after the Covid-19 emergency, and which is now resuming with new impetus.
“Emilia-Romagna is the Italian region that generates the most exports to Argentina. In terms of per capita share, each inhabitant of the area exports more than double the national average”, says the governor who noted, among others, companies of Italcam from Buenos Aires. Total exports amount to 209 million euros, equal to 15%, while imports amount to 417.8 million euros.
Between 2019 and 2022 (latest year available), “our exports increased significantly” (+11% between 2019 and 2021 and 35% in 2022).
Exports are driven by industrial products (about 98% of all regional exports) and, among these, the most important are mechanics, machinery and equipment for industry and agriculture (120.6 million euros), chemical and pharmaceutical products (€30.2 million), automobiles, special products and their parts (€11.9 million).
Argentina’s imports, on the other hand, are concentrated (over 98%) in livestock and agricultural products, in particular animal and vegetable oils and fats (which alone represent 71% of imports) and meat and meat-based products (11% of the total).
And now the Region, the first in Italy to have a law to attract talent from abroad, is also looking for highly qualified profiles in Argentina.
“We need human capital to meet the demands of our companies and to counter negative birth rates. The approved law provides for concessions for companies that hire young foreign talents, and for those who arrive there are benefits in terms of daily life, from home. at school”, adds the governor who sees great potential in Argentina and guarantees that he will return “soon”. .
