Rita Lee, one of the biggest names in Brazilian music, died on Monday night, May 8, at the age of 75. The singer was diagnosed with lung cancer in 2021 and has since undergone immunotherapy and radiation treatments.
“Our Rita underwent a check-up at the Albert Einstein Israelite Hospital in Sao Paulo. The tests showed a primary tumor in her left lung. She is already at home and will continue with immunotherapy and radiotherapy treatments”, was what the singer’s team said at the time of the discovery of the disease.

He had been on treatment for a year and, in April 2020, Rita Lee’s son announced that his mother was cured of cancer. “My mother’s recovery moved me. Best news ever. She kept her head up, willing to fight and faced it all with her usual good humor, so much so that she nicknamed the tumor ‘Jair'”.
In February of that year Rita had to be hospitalized at Albert Einstein Hospital, in São Paulo, to remain under cancer observation. At the time, the singer’s husband, Robert de Carvalhospoke of the queen.
“Rita is getting stronger, she is recovering. We know that there will always be monitoring tests and therapies to be carried out, which will eventually lead to hospitalizations. Once, you will have to deal with the disease and the side effects of the treatments”.
On the morning of Tuesday 9, the singer’s team used Rita’s social networks to announce her death. “We announce the death of Rita Lee, at her residence, in São Paulo, capital, late last night, surrounded by all the love of her family, as she always wished.”
