Tandem: “I really thought I was going to disappear from the series”… Stefan Blancafort’s revelations about the 7th season, which is full of threats

Good news for fans of detective fiction: Tandem, the France 3 series starring Astrid Veillon and Stéphane Blancafort in the shoes of cops and ex-husbands Lea Soler and Paul Marshall, returns for its seventh new episode this Tuesday, May 9 at 9:10 p.m. A season that will also be the last.

Although there are still twelve new episodes for fans to enjoy, Stéphane Blancafort, who was introduced a few weeks ago during the Canneséries festival, returns for us in the shocking cliffhanger that closed the 6th season last year – Paul was shot and may be left for dead – and tells us more about the About the twists and turns that will mark this seventh and final season.

Don’t forget to give us his vision for the upcoming TV movie Tandem, which will be directed by his friend Astrid Veyon and may close the adventure for good, and tease us about his participation in the TF1 series Here It All Begins, which he will join the air in the coming weeks.

AlloCiné: Season 6 of Tandem, which aired last year, ended with a big cliffhanger: Leah found Paul between life and death in a pool of blood after being shot. What can you tell us about what’s in store for this seventh season?

Stephen Blancafort : Season 7 is really full of news and twists. Leah and Paul are investigating the Marvo dossier, which is a really dangerous case because my character almost died because of the whole thing, which is nothing.

Also, for a little anecdote, when I read the script of the last episode of the 6th season, I really thought that I was disappearing from the series and no one warned me (laughs).

I was reading and suddenly I came across this phrase: Paul takes a bullet that goes through his lungs and disintegrates in a huge pool of blood.. And I said to myself: “But no, I’m not in season 7 or what?!”. So I called the production and at first I didn’t get an answer. That’s why I didn’t calm down at all (laughs). I think it wasn’t until three days later that I heard Paul was going to survive. The longest three days of my life.

And behind all these intrigues, which will really put the characters in danger, the audience can expect a lot of love, a lot of connections. And there’s also a baby to arrive as Paul and Leah become grandparents!

Is the storyline around Paul a common theme throughout the season? Or will the mystery of what happened to him be solved soon enough?

This is a common theme, absolutely. From memory I think it lasts half a season. We find out the truth later in the season, around episode 6 or 7. By the way, this is quite surprising. But a lot will happen before that.

While trying to discover the truth, Leah will become the subject of threats, and she will also find herself in danger. Like Franck Marvo (Francois-Dominique Blin) even more so because this file originates from his parents’ history.

That’s why there’s real danger in this seventh season that wasn’t necessarily there in the previous seasons, as the main characters really find themselves in life-or-death situations. And it was done pretty well. There’s a real tension around it all, I think the audience will be happy with what we have.

Astrid Waylon said that this new season will be the last. Did you two make this decision together?

No, Astrid made up her mind, as she often does. He immediately came to talk to me when we were still shooting Season 5. And I appreciated his approach because it allowed everyone to be informed and prepared for this ending two years in advance.

Then he announced it in production and it wasn’t easy at all to accept because it’s a series that’s been doing well and could have gone on longer. But I understand his decision and I agree with him. Seven seasons, which seemed very good to us. There is an age of mind somewhere, so it is very good. We didn’t want to risk boring people or going on for the wrong reasons.

But luckily for the public, that’s not the end of the tandem just yet, as you’ll soon be filming a TV special directed by Astrid herself…

exactly We’re going back to filming from May 24th to June 20th for a 90-minute unit, which is a format that Candace Renoir also used recently. I think it’s pretty good to “finish” things because you don’t know if the goal is to close the loop, but you’re still ready to say goodbye if it is. And then I watch this TV movie as a comfort for us, because it will change us from the TV series, which we crossed four episodes in twenty days.

What does this tandem event TV movie have to offer?

I haven’t read the script yet, so I can’t tell you much. I just know there will be flashbacks to the 90s and so I guess the special effects. Because otherwise I don’t know how to rejuvenate (laughs).

Despite this upcoming TV movie, does the end of Season 7 feel like a real end to the series? Will fans be satisfied with this ending?

A good ending, yes, but at the same time, nothing is final. in fashion “It’s dead, they can’t come back, it’s over”. As with many series, there is a small open door. It’s like we left ourselves with the possibility of one day moving on, you never know.

Either way, I like the unit formula. So if we had one or two shoots a year, I found it really good. But I don’t know at all if France 3 is planning more for the end of May we’re going to shoot.

At this end of season 7, can we hope for a rapprochement between Paul and Leah?

This is a big question. Will they end up together? All I can say is that there is a lot of love in these last twelve episodes. And let’s end on a pleasant note.

What will you remember after these seven years of tandem?

What immediately comes to mind is this wonderful synergy between each of us. When we talk about work, we often talk about family. And it’s really like that on a tandem. We are a real family with great love, respect and admiration for each other.

I am very good friends with François-Dominique Blin, we ride motorcycles together outside of filming, we share a common love. I am in frequent contact with Pierrick Tournier. With Astrid too, of course. We invite each other. A very strong bond was created with the entire team. We spent seven years together, it’s nothing. There are many moments that will remain engraved. And these very strong connections, I hope.

A few words about your upcoming projects?

I joined the shootingEverything starts here Early April, as Mark Leroy, a chef who could be Paul Marshall’s cousin or even brother in tandem (laughs). He is a star chef who decides to return his two stars because he does not want to fulfill certain restrictions inherent in this profession and because he wants to run his very high quality gourmet cuisine in his own way.

He is a great character who loves to innovate and create dishes in extreme conditions. I’m already having a lot of fun playing it and it’s going to appear on the jury at the Institute. That’s all I can say for now.

In addition to the TV movie tandem, I’m also going to guest star in an episode of Alexandra Elle in Bordeaux. First of all, I said yes to the director, Corinne Bergas, who is a friend and who started with us in tandem as the chief cameraman. It’s a very small role, but the security is enjoyable and allows me to meet new people. This is also one of the pleasures of this profession: meetings.
