3 tips to prevent data leakage in your company

Companies must be allies of users and protect their systems from hacker attacks

Hacker attacks and data leaks are more and more common, even more so with the emergence of various technologies and also with the lack of security of some users’ personal passwords. According to a survey by the cybersecurity company NordPass, the password most used by Brazilians is “123456”, followed by “brasil”. Such inattention to the security of their passwords makes users targets for these cyber attacks.

This triggers an alert for companies that store customer login data to be aware of the security of their servers in order to avoid data leaks, after all, Brazil was 12th among the countries that had the most of data leaks in 2022, according to data from privacy firm SurfShark.

Rogério Athayde, CTO of keeggoa provider of technology solutions for businesses, points out that the pandemic has accelerated the digitization of processes, which has also resulted in more data and systems being exposed to cybercrime.

With this in mind, the expert offers three tips that help companies increase data protection and avoid exposing their customers:

Two-factor authentication

“To encourage their customers to create more secure passwords, it’s important that companies offer the option to enable two-factor authentication. The resource offers an extra layer of protection against hackers, requiring the user for a second secure piece of information, in addition to the login and password, before actually granting access,” says Athayde.

Policy and awareness for creating secure passwords

It is already common that, when creating an online registration, the user receives suggestions from the company on how to create a strong password, combining characters and alternating information. This is a vital step in creating secure access that cannot be overlooked.

“It is essential that organizations implement and encourage a policy and awareness focused on this care, with constant warnings and suggestions on how to create passwords and how to protect against attacks and data leaks,” says the expert.

Identity management and access control

With the advancement of technology, innovative security measures have emerged that have enabled the protection of user and company data, based on their registration, or level, within the platform. It is essential that companies use and abuse measures that help manage the identity and control of these profiles when granting access taking into account their position and hierarchical level in an organization.

“There are many solutions on the market that can increase cyber security and prevent attacks. It is extremely important that managers and decision makers seek effective protective measures, as a simple oversight can lead to serious and even irreparable damage,” Athayde points out.
