When will ‘Elite’ end?

Carlos Montero, showrunner of the Netflix series, gives clues about the future of fiction, which will soon premiere its sixth season.

A few days ago we visited the shooting of the sixth season of ‘Elite’, in which Netflix showed us the new sets that they have built in their studio in Tres Cantos (Madrid). The streaming platform doubles its bet on a series whose third and fourth seasons remain among the 10 most watched non-English speaking series in its history. Verónica Fernández, director of fiction at Netflix Spain, made it clear to us: “It has a great future, there are no signs of exhaustion”.

How much future, specifically? There are no more seasons announced yet beyond the sixth that we will see soon, but co-creator Carlos Montero sees a long road ahead. “We have our minds set on a seventh, and an eighth and a ninth. Yes Yes. Minimum ten. We are always ahead of the writing”he said on this visit.

It is a risky statement and we will see if it comes true, but the truth is that ‘Elite’ has already passed the test of surviving the change of a generation of actors. “There was a little bit of fear or sorrow at the end of the third season, when the cycle of Marina, Polo, and everything that ‘Elite’ launched, and suddenly in the fourth we didn’t have Lu, we didn’t have a marchioness, we didn’t have Polo… and it was dizzying”admitted Jaime Vaca, co-creator of the series. “But it was when we found that ‘Elite’ was a particular universe, very much alive”.

“The strength is the brand, ‘Elite’”Montero added. “We have created a very powerful universe that works alone. Well, not only, it takes a lot of work, but it is a universe that is very much alive. It shows when you are in a series of many seasons that you have to pull a lot from the car because that no longer advances; in the case of ‘Elite’ it is not like that. All the new ones fit in, nothing that you take care of them a little both at the character level and at the casting level “.

    A more mature sixth season

The actors already warned us that this sixth season is more calm, serious and mature than the previous one, and Montero and Vaca confirm it. “We are always proud but this season we are especially so. It is true that it is very forceful, because almost by chance two very social and very clear issues have coincided that have carried us throughout the season”explained Montero, adding that the direction of Lino Escalera (‘I don’t know how to say goodbye’) in the first two episodes has left “a tempo that reminds me of what Ramón Salazar did in the first chapters. Without being very aware, we have recovered the essence of the first ‘Elite’”. “The sixth has that stop, that well, and we give a lot of importance to depending on what things”Vaca advanced.

    ‘Elite’

Among the things we can expect: there will be more unity in the new group of students played by the new additions Ander Puig, Carmen Arrufat, Álvaro de Juana, Ana Bokesa and Álex Pastrana. “There will be a gang, because we believe that the hallmark of ‘Elite’ is the group, and with so many new characters coming, we have to create a group. We stop, each character is going to have their pause, their moment to reflect, to experience things…”Cow assures.

And two more details, according to Montero. “The sixth we left it closed in some things and very open in others. We always do it like this”. Also, when asked to confirm if we can’t expect any characters from the first season to appear, a half smile appeared on his face: “We cannot answer you. Wait, wait”.

    We will have to wait.
