Miraculously, the adventures of Ladybug and Cat Noir don’t stop being talked about. After facing controversy in March 2022 after the French police censored the footage, the animated series caused a stir again this weekend.
Episode 17 of season 5 of the cartoon, which aired this Sunday, May 7 on TF1, was a defining moment in the history of the series, as it featured a lesbian coming out scene from one of its main characters.
In this episode, Zoe actually reveals to Marinette that she’s not in love with Adrien, but with her. If the heroine is initially surprised by this recognition, she still takes her friend by the hand before telling her that she is flattered. Zoe takes the opportunity to encourage Marinette to confess her feelings for Adrien.
The scene, which has been widely shared on social media since it aired, is historic for Miraculous, the adventures of Ladybug and Cat Noir, as it marks the first time audiences have seen one of the main characters speak.
Thus, Zoé becomes the first openly lesbian character in the series. Because if there are many heroes from the LGBTQ + community in the cartoon, their romantic relationship is most often implied. This is the first person to say so publicly.
If the appearance of an openly lesbian character in a children’s series was not to everyone’s taste, some Internet users declared themselves “shockedTo see such a sequence, many applauded the fact that TF1 is airing the scene in prime time.
