The Little Mermaid: “Amazing”, “Indispensable”, “Visual Scare”… First Opinions Dropped!

Are you ready to go back under the ocean with Ariel, Flounder and Sebastian? A preview of Disney’s Little Mermaid was held last night in Los Angeles as well as a French press screening. What do early viewers think of Rob Marshall’s water feature?

In the film, Holly Bailey plays Ariel, Jonah Hauer-King lends his features to Prince Eric, Melissa McCarthy is the sea witch Ursula, Javier Bardem slips into the skin of King Triton, and Awkwafina doubles as Eureka, Jacob Tremblay voices Flanders and Dave Diggs is Sebastian the Crab.

This modern version of Ron Clements and John Musker’s film takes us to a fictional Caribbean island in the 19th century. Ariel, the youngest daughter of King Triton, is a young mermaid with an adventurous temperament. A rebel at heart, she is constantly drawn to the world that exists beyond the waves. During her escape, she falls under the spell of Prince Eric.

Even though mermaids are forbidden from interacting with humans, Ariel still feels that she must follow her heart. He then makes a pact with Ursula, a fearsome sea witch, who grants him the right to live on dry land, but no doubt the pact puts his life – and his father’s crown – at risk.

Steve Weintraub, American site journalist Collider Writes a long thread explaining that he enjoyed the feature film but regrets that the creators of the original film are not credited above.

I love little mermaid a lot. Holly Bailey is fantastic and Melissa McCarthy and Dave Diggs were so good they had the audience laughing. I also thought Rob Marshall did a good job with the underwater scenes.

But… my problem with the movie is the lack of respect for the original in the credits. When we quote the screenwriter of a new movie before mentioning Ron Clements and John Musker, we cross the line.

This new live action movie wouldn’t exist without their amazing animation and they shouldn’t be forgotten in the credits. I had to dig through the credits to find their names. They deserve more. That said, this is a movie that everyone will enjoy and families will love. I just wish Disney had done a better job with the credits.”

American journalist Chauncey K. Robinson praises Halle Bailey and warns her critics that they were wrong.

“I’m so happy to tell you to run (or swim) and not walk to see The Little Mermaid! Amazing. Halle is the star. There are beautiful renditions of classic songs and some (wonderful) new surprises. A well-crafted script, solid performances and a magical tone, they They got it right.

I still can’t believe I saw it, nor the quality of this show (…) The actors were incredible, the music, the looks. So much energy and culture pours off the screen. To be honest, opponents will have to decide on that.

Hall’s vulnerability in her acting was unmistakable. There is so much chemistry between her and Prince Eric. Speaking of which, Jonah Hauer-King is definitely going to be your new favorite lead actor. The supporting cast was amazing. 4 years of work. Congrats everyone!

Alan Menken, the music composer, is indeed back at work and created new credits with Lin Manuel-Miranda, including Prince Eric’s song and 2 songs that Ariel sings in her head when she is human and therefore mute. Open page entertainment tonight Also published an extract entitled “Under the Sea”.

Some journalists still regret some visual problems, especially during underwater scenes and CGI.

“The Little Mermaid blew me away. Aside from a few visual issues, it’s the most romantic and, dare I say, magical movie that Disney has made in years. It’s the best live-action remake ever. David Diggs is the best actor. Holly Bailey is a superstar, and her role in ‘Your A part of the world” is true craftsmanship.”

Opinion shared by Tessa Smith of the site Rotten tomatoeswhich regrets that the visual effects are not always successful.

“The Little Mermaid is magical. Holly Bailey is absolutely phenomenal. This girl has so many ideas! Scuttle and Sebastian are hilarious and kept me laughing throughout the movie. I love the new songs and some of the story elements! A few CGI shots, but they don’t detract from the movie.”

On the part of the French press, the film was also praised, even if it was not worthy of an animated version in the opinion of some, who nevertheless emphasized the importance of the screen presentation, the main interest of this remake in live action.
