The plastic surgeon comments on the new technologies for the gluteal region, and explains why this procedure is always on the rise
In Brazil, about 1.5 million aesthetic procedures are performed in Brazil every year, according to the SBCP (Brazilian Society of Plastic Surgery). Women are responsible for 88% of cosmetic operations performed in the country. In 2020 there were approx 1.3 million surgeries, even in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic. This year, Brazil was the second country in the number of procedures in the world, second only to the United States, according to a report by ISAPS (International Society of Plastic Surgery, in Portuguese).
According to SBC, surgical procedures are no longer an option for many patients, which accounted for 82.6% in 2014, falling to 52.5% in 2016 and 50.1% in 2018. Non-surgical procedures are on the rise , which represent 17.4%, 47.5% and 49.9% in the three periods. Focusing specifically on the issue of surgeries in the gluteal region, gluteoplasty accounted for 0.8% of cosmetic surgeries in 2018.
According to Dr. Patrícia Leite Nogueira, plastic surgeon and owner of Clínica Meta, body procedures are gaining space in medical aesthetics and research has increased significantly. It is natural for her that the search for this type of procedure is constantly increasing beauty,” she says.
“The emergence of new products, new technologies, specific courses for the training and qualification of doctors, helps to increase the offer of procedures for this region,” he says.
The main non-surgical procedures in the buttocks
Non-surgical procedures, such as volumizing, which is filling out the buttocks; the elimination of cellulite with subincision; collagen biostimulation; the use of PDO yarns; the emptiers, which are the fat emptiers; and macrofocused ultrasound are some of the top aesthetic procedures that can be performed in the region, according to Dr. Patrizia. “Because of the busy life we lead today, they are the most sought after,” he points out.
According to an article by plastic hospital, the subincision is a non-surgical technique indicated in the treatment of cellulite in more advanced degrees which present “punctual” retractions also visible in the skin at “rest” and other subcutaneous alterations. The procedure is performed using a sharp-pointed needle that is inserted under the skin, causing the skin to peel off and bleed from the site.
Hyaluronic acid is the main filler used in volumizing today, according to Hospital da Plástica. The human body produces this substance, capable of maintaining shapes and contours, but this production decreases over the years. If the filling is not done again at some point, the appearance will return to its original state, says the specialist.
