Tonight on Prime Video: A pure mix of Mad Max, 28 Days Later and New York 1997!

Discovered by his excellent B-movie Dog Soldiers, which chronicled the trials of six inexperienced English soldiers battling a pack of werewolves, Neil Marshall continues his rise with his next film, the terrifying and 100% female Behind Closed Doors, terrifyingly effective. Allow.

Three years later, in 2008, he plunged into the post-apocalyptic world of the delirious Judgment Day, available on Prime Video. Scotland became a no man’s land To stop an epidemic of unimaginable savagery, caused by a virus that has torn the rest of the world apart. But when, 30 years later, the same virus reappears in the heart of London, a shock commando goes on a suicide mission to find a possible vaccine in an area left in the hands of rival gangs.

Drawing on influences from 1997’s Unstoppable New York, 28 Days Later Mad Max 2, and even a whiff of the glorious era of Future Gladiator’s trendy Italian encore. Judgment day delivers a noble and uninhibited show, highly violent and deliciously regressive, directed by a certain talent who has somewhat lost track of 2019 after his overwrought inferno debacle…

The movie is literally carried by actress Rona Mitra, more athletic (and deadlier!) than ever, Malcolm McDowell straight out of medieval fantasy and a fan of gladiator fights, and even the late Bob Hoskins, who we’re surprised by. See the fall in a movie like this. It’s a little all over the place, but that’s why we love it!
