Cillian Murphy, on the possible return of ‘Peaky Blinders’ in the form of a film: “I would love it”

The creator of ‘Peaky Blinders’ promised us a movie that would close the story after the last season of the series. We want it NOW.

‘Peaky Blinders’ has come to an end last year after six seasons, but creator Steven Knight promised us a movie that would continue (and close) the story. Cillian Murphy, the person in charge of getting into the skin of the protagonist of the series Thomas Shelby, has been questioned by the magazine rolling stones about this possible return to his most iconic character, and this is what he has responded:

“If there’s more story to tell, I’d love to do it,” Cillian Murphy said of the ‘Peaky Blinders’ movie.. “But it has to be done right. Steve Knight wrote 36 hours of television and we went off very well. I am very proud of the end of the series. So he would have to feel legitimate and justified to do more.” Murphy added that while he loved playing Thomas Shelby, he couldn’t be more different in real life from the fictional character.

“People expect me to be mysterious, arrogant… That’s just a character. I feel like people are a little disappointed. But that’s okay, it means I’m doing my job. ‘Peaky Blinders’ fans are amazing. But sometimes I feel a little sad that I can’t provide that charisma and swagger. It couldn’t be further from me.”

Steven Knight first spoke about the film several years ago, saying the idea came about when they lost a year of production due to the pandemic. So we put our heads together and we thought it would be a good idea to make a movie instead of making the seventh season. ‘Peaky Blinders’ is a fully formed idea and has a beginning, middle and end. And I think it’s going to be a fitting conclusion to the story told so far, but from there, there will be things that… I’m not really calling them spin-offs, but there will be other TV shows that I hope will come out of it.who will continue to tell the story of this part of society and this family.”

However, little has been heard since then, and the project seems to have faded into the background now that Steven Knight has signed on to write the new Star Wars movie, which will be directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy (‘Ms. Marvel’).

Cillian Murphy isn’t wasting time either, and will star in Christopher Nolan’s ‘Oppenheimer’ leading an all-star cast that includes Matt Damon, Emily Blunt, Robert Downey Jr., Gary Oldman, Rami Malek, Florence Pugh, Kenneth Branagh and many (many) more. The film will hit theaters on July 21.
