Warning, this article contains spoilers for the first four episodes of The Citadel.
Watch out for appearances on The Citadel, Prime Video’s blockbuster series that airs one episode a week. Last week, subscribers learned that Abby (Ashley Cummings) — Mason’s (Richard Madden) wife — was actually a Citadel spy tasked with getting close to Anders Silje (Roland Moller). Episode 3 also ended on this cliffhanger.
Episode 4 takes us back in time once again as Mason meets Celeste (who is none other than Abby), a new Citadel agent and longtime friend of Nadia (Priyanka Chopra).
We learn that the Silje twins are working on a weapon that can penetrate any firewall. Celeste has a specific mission: to get close to Anders, fall in love with him and steal his car.
After a week of infiltration, Celeste stops reporting, prompting Citadel agents to intervene. They discover that said weapon has disappeared. Mason then receives a cryptic message implying that Nadia is guilty. Despite everything, he accuses Celeste of stealing it, hoping to sell it and pay off his brother’s debts.
He eventually convinces his hierarchy that Celeste is indeed a double agent and that her memory must be erased. He finds her a new identity and a new address (in the city where her grandmother lived). His meeting with the person who will become his wife 8 years after these events seems completely accidental…
So Mason knew from the beginning that Nadia is Molly, but seems to want to hide the truth from the adults (for love?). Unfortunately for him, Carter (see Ossie) also learns that his teammate betrayed the Citadel and was behind the downfall of the agency. The last two episodes of the first season should explain why he decided to be a double agent.
