The Lord of the Rings: Massively Multiplayer Game is in the works at Amazon

A short flip sequence. While Amazon was busy developing its hugely expensive Lord of the Rings series, it was expected to be accompanied by a massively multiplayer role-playing game developed by Amazon Games. Announced with much fanfare in 2019, the project was finally pulled after two years.

It’s likely to come back better this year, as Amazon Games just announced a deal Middle Earth Enterprises New AAA game development and publishing Lord of the Rings on PC and consoles.

Without a specific title, this game will also be massively multiplayer (in MMORPG jargon), offering players the chance to rediscover The Hobbit and the original Lord of the Rings trilogy.

Amazon Games Studio, located in Orange, California, which is already working on the MMORPG New World, will develop the game. Note also that this upcoming title based on the Lord of the Rings license is also being developed in partnership with Embracer Group, who bought it. Crystal Dynamics studio. To date, Amazon Games has announced eight video game projects in production. Suffice it to forget the firm’s very chaotic start in the sector, with many postponements and cancellations in recent years.
