Formula 1 will visit the Imola circuit for the Emilia-Romagna GP this weekend. This Tuesday, however, a major obstacle put the organization of the stage in check. With heavy rains in the region, the runway is in danger of being flooded by a river that runs alongside it and has therefore been evacuated.
The Formula 1 teams and their drivers should have arrived at the circuit on Wednesday, ahead of the first practice sessions for the GP on Friday. However, as weather forecasts indicate that heavy rains will continue for the next 24 hours, their arrivals have been suspended until the end of the day.
The Civil Protection Department has placed the Emilia-Romagna region on red alert for possible flooding and landslides. Schools and roads have been closed and the recommendation is that residents avoid moving. In early May, two people died in floods in the region.
The river that surrounds the Imola racetrack is at the second level of alert, of the existing three, and has already overflowed in some points. The recordings made by the press present on site have shown that the water has invaded even a small part of the circuit land.
The problem extends to other categories organized by the FIA, which has not yet officially positioned itself. Formula 2 and Formula 3 will also race at Imola this weekend.

At this stage, Formula 1 will debut a new rain tyre, created by Pirelli. Unlike those used up to now, the new compounds will not need to be heated by thermal blankets before taking to the track. The first free practice sessions of the Emilia-Romagna GP are scheduled for Friday at 8:30 (Brasilia time). Qualifying starts at 11 on Saturday, while the race is scheduled for 10 on Sunday.
