With La Reine Charlotte, Netflix offers the same formula as Bridgerton, telling a beautiful love story – fictional and free of real facts – between a king and his queen.
If the series is also an excuse to talk about inclusion and racism, the romance between Charlotte and George and the question of inheritance remain in the background. So the older version of her has only one obsession in mind: to give her legitimate grandchildren so that her husband’s lineage will never disappear.
All of this leads to this final scene (which is sure to shed a few tears as the writer of these lines), in which Charlotte goes to find George to announce that one of their sons is having a baby.
The two lovers then hide under the bed, as they did at the beginning of their marriage. The camera takes turns showing the younger version of them. As if to let us know that the years have not changed their love and the ties that unite them.
In an interview with Vanity Fair, Golda Rochewell (who plays an older version of the Queen) revealed that India Amarteifio and Corey Milchrest were not supposed to be in the scene in the first place:
“We never toured with them and this was one of the last ones with us. When the four of us ended up in the same room, it was wonderful and exciting.
Basically the scene was written just for me and James , but the director asked India and Corey to learn the lines. His idea was to bring the four actors together on screen and do this uplifting ending..”
This will be the only time subscribers will see the four King and Queen performers reunite in one scene, since Queen Charlotte is a mini-series and Netflix has no plans to make a second season.
But we will find Golda Rochewell on screen very soon, as she will also be in Bridgerton season 3, which will focus on Colin and Penelope.
