F1 drivers launch messages of support for Emilia-Romagna


Imola GP canceled due to heavy rain

Formula 1 drivers spoke this Wednesday (17) of the cancellation of the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix, in Italy, due to the rains that affected the region.

Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc from Monaco wished “strength” and “courage” to those affected by the storms. The pilot even posted a photo from a fundraiser.

Even the Japanese Yuki Tsunoda, of AlphaTauri, spoke of the bad weather in Emilia-Romagna, which has already caused at least six deaths.

“I really hope that all people living in Emilia-Romagna stay safe in the coming days,” wrote the Asian.

The current two-time champion of the main category of world motorsport, Dutchman Max Verstappen, of Red Bull, said he supports the decision by the Italian authorities to cancel the GP.

“My thoughts go out to all the people affected by the heavy storm surges and flooding in Emilia-Romagna. I wish you the strength to overcome this difficult moment,” said the pilot.

F1 chief executive Stefano Domenicali said it was a “tragedy” to see what happened in Imola, home to the Enzo e Dino Ferrari racetrack, and in Emilia-Romagna.

“It is the city and the region where I grew up. My thoughts and prayers go out to the victims of the floods, to the families and communities affected”, said the Italian, who also expressed “gratitude” and “admiration” for rescue teams.

The six victims caused by the rains lived in the province of Forlì-Cesena, four men and two women. At least five thousand people have been evacuated from their homes. .
