Johnny Depp cries with seven minutes of applause for his film at Cannes

The controversies surrounding the film seem to have been set aside. In addition to marking the first starring role of depp after an extensive and mediatic legal battle against his ex-wife, Amber Heard, Maiwenn caused revolt by spitting on a journalist and admitting the aggression a few months before the premiere.

Thierry Fremauxdirector of Cannes Film Festivalcountered criticisms about the presence of Johnny Depp and the screening of the feature film: “I don’t know about the image of Johnny Depp in the United States. To tell you the truth, in my life, I only have one rule, and that is freedom of thought, freedom of speech and acting in accordance with the law.”

“If there’s one person in this world who doesn’t have the slightest interest in this trial, it’s me. I don’t know what it’s about. Johnny Depp like an actor,” continued the director. “If Johnny Depp had been banned from the cinema, or the film had been banned, we wouldn’t be talking about it.”
