The category is considering extending the internship contract by another year
Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali admitted on Wednesday that it will be difficult to hold the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix at Imola in 2023.
The GP was to have taken place from 19 to 21 May, at the Enzo and Dino Ferrari racetrack, but was canceled due to the heavy rains that have hit the region since last Tuesday (16) and which have already caused at least eight deaths.
“I’m sorry for the fans, they are very passionate here.
Given the calendar, it will be difficult to recover this year, but we have a moral duty towards those who have worked,” Domenicali told SkySport.
When asked if F1 could extend the Imola contract by a year, until 2026, the CEO replied that “it’s an option on the table”.
Even the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure, Galeazzo Bignami, said that negotiations are already underway to extend the agreement for another season, in order to compensate for the GP not being held in 2023.
According to Domenicali, F1 will promote a fundraiser for the region and for the employees of the AlphaTauri team – whose headquarters are in Faenza, a few kilometers from the racetrack – who lost everything in the flood. .
