Abel Ferreira comments on Tabata’s entry to Palmeiras and praises Veiga: ‘Complete player’

Técnico do Verdão said he had already clarified the midfielder would replace Artur and praised the number 23

Palmeiras beat Fortaleza 3-0 this Wednesday in the first leg of the round of 16 of the Copa do Brasil. The novelty of the team was the entry of Bruno Tabata in place of Artur, who was unable to participate in the competition. As well as explaining the option for a first-team midfielder, Abel Ferreira was full of praise for Raphael Veiga, whom he regards as a “complete player”.

In a press conference after the match at the Allianz Parque, the Portuguese coach said he had made no secret of substituting Artur. According to the commander of the Palmeirense, those who witnessed the last duels understood who would be chosen for the vacant position opened in the initial 11.

– Bruno (Tabata) was a player who arrived, he had to adapt to the context, the needs of the matches, the calendar… So it took a little longer, when he regained his confidence, he got injured, he stayed out for a long time, when he came back, he relapsed. He is a player we count on for that role and for others. He had already entered the last two games in place of Artur, even Giovani would not play. You didn’t have to be a wizard to know who he was going to play. I really like the rice and beans, well seasoned and well cooked.

After yet another great game by Raphael Veiga and a goal scored in the match, Abel Ferreira was asked about the importance of the defensive role played by the number 23, important in recovering and recovering balls. According to coach Alviverde, that’s exactly what he admires in the midfielder, which makes him a complete player.

– That’s what I like best about him (defensive role). It’s hard to find a 10 that does the defensive job he does. The tactical responsibility is mine, the technique is theirs, the physics is mine and the NSP’s, the mental responsibility is everyone’s. I’m not saying what will improve technically, the collective effort is what makes it complete. What I talk to him about the most are the defensive aspects – said the commander.

Palmeiras now changes the key and focuses on the dispute of Brasileirão, competition in which he faces Santos, this Saturday, at 21h, in Vila Belmiro. As for the Copa do Brasil, Verdão will only return to the field on May 31, in Castelão, for the second leg of the round of 16. To qualify, Alviverde can draw or lose with a maximum difference of two goals.
