“Pearl” is a horror film directed by Ti West, who co-wrote the screenplay in collaboration with actress Mia Goth. This is the film of a trilogy entitled “”, consisting of “X – The Mark of Death”, first released in 2022, and a sequel titled “MaXXXine”.
The film is set in the year 1918, 61 years before the events depicted in “The Mark of Death”. Mia Goth plays the protagonist, Pearl, a young mentally disturbed dreamer, who must be between 20 and 26 years old.
The protagonist is the young version of the mysterious old woman who, together with her husband, scolds the first film, “X – A Marca da Morte”. The film “Pearl” is, therefore, a prequel that tells the story of the origins of the villain present in the previous film.
The plot of the movie
Pearl dreams of becoming a movie star, but finds herself trapped on an isolated ranch in rural Texas. After a Spanish flu pandemic hits the region, the young woman is forced to care for her ailing father and deal with her inflexible and strict mother. However, her Pearl shows signs of mental derangement and violent, abusive impulses. When opportunities to achieve the glamorous life she has always dreamed of go awry, these signs of ailment worsen and become more brutal, driving the protagonist to madness.
