Robert Downey Jr became known worldwide as the real Iron man from Marvel, but has other significant roles. In his new journey, Downey will embark on a mission to save his classic vehicles and make them more environmentally friendly. And it will be possible to follow the process in a new TV series.
HBO Max has released the first trailer for Downey’s dream cars – a new series premiering on June 22 and starring Robert Downey Jr. as host and co-producer, along with Boat Rocker’s Matador Content.
Matador Content is executive produced by Jay Peterson, Todd Lubin and Dave Larzelere, while Downey’s team includes Emily Barclay Ford. Kyle Wheeler is executive producer of Discovery.
Downey has a large collection of classic cars, mostly American vehicles from the 60s and 70s, that need to be converted into more efficient and environmentally friendly machines for the new era of mobility. Downey puts together a team of engineers and mechanics who transform his beloved cars into hybrids and electrics.
We are what we drive, and having amassed a formidable classic car collection over the years, I was a fossil-fuel burning wreck. And a hypocrite, as I founded the Footprint Coalition in 2019 to scale up technologies that mitigate climate change. Luckily I’m a bit of a dreamer. The past 3 years have been an experiment in hope as I have engaged the brightest minds to evaluate, educate, elevate and decarbonise these vehicles in a way that demonstrates the limitless potential of creative problem solving.
