The actor received, by surprise, a Palme d’Or of Honor in commemoration of his extensive career in the cinema.
The fifth premiere of ‘Indiana Jones’, the adventure saga starring Harrison Ford, took place last night, May 18, at the Cannes Film Festival. Its protagonists, among whom we could see Ford himself, Phoebe Waller-Bridge or Mads Mikkelsen (among others), went to the Palace of Congresses and Festivals in the French city to attend the latest premiere of the franchise (at least, for the moment).
Despite the strength with which he impregnates his characters, the actor was carried away by the emotion of the moment and could be seen holding back tears on more than one occasion.
It is not for less. Yesterday was a historic moment. After 40 years giving life to a character (which is said soon), Harrison Ford delivers it to the public and separates from him to never get into his skin again. A milestone for him, having shot this adventure film at 80 years of age, with the same ease as when he did it for the first time at 40.
When the end credits of the film began, the present audience rose in a general ovation that welcomed its protagonist into the spotlight. Regardless of whether the public liked the film or not, what was celebrated was the interpreter’s journey.
At the beginning of the night, the director of the festival, Thierry Frémaux, would take him up on stage where a compilation of some of the best moments of his career was projected. After this moment, and by surprise, He was awarded a Palme d’Or of Honor for his career in cinema.
The actor explained: “I am very excited about this. They say that when you are about to die, you see your life flash before your eyes. I just did it. A large part of my life, but not all. My life has been made possible by my lovely wife, who has supported me in my passion and dreams, for which I am grateful.”
Then, speaking directly to the attendees, he added: “I love you too. But there is a movie to see. He’s right behind me, so let me get out of the way, and thanks again for this honor.”
Cheers also filled the venue before the movie was played. After this very special moment, ‘Indiana Jones and the Dial of Fate’ gave its starting signal.
In its 142 minutes of footage, we will see Indiana in the year 1969, on a new mission that she will lead with her niece, played by Phoebe Waller-Bridge.
The film will hit theaters on June 30.
