With the Under 20, Marcos Leonardo does not guarantee his stay at Santos: “I can blow up and not come back”

One of Santos’ major recent revelations, striker Marcos Leonardo left his future open in an interview on Friday. The player, absent from the San Paolo club because he is playing in the Under-20 World Cup with the Brazilian national team, has not guaranteed to return to the club after the competition.

“I can blow up this World Cup and not go back to Santos. So, it’s very relative. God willing, I’ll have a worthy championship, that we’ll beat champion and the rest I’ll let happen naturally ” , he said.

Marcos Leonardo is one of the main players of Santos. Before joining the U20s, the number 9 started in the four Brasileirão games in which he was available. Last season he was on the field more than 50 times. His contract with Peixe runs until the end of 2026 and carries a termination penalty of 100 million euros, approximately R$530 million.

The end of the under 20 World Cup, scheduled for 11 June, is close to the opening of the European market, which could favor the departure of Marcos Leonardo.

This Friday, the Under 20 finished their penultimate training session before their debut in the World Cup. Commanded by coach Ramon Menezes, the cast participated in tactical and technical work. During the activities, the team focused on offensive and defensive crosses, as well as free kicks.
