The screenings will be free, and will be accompanied by the presence of the directors and cast members.
Barcelona, Bilbao, Girona, Malaga, Palma de Mallorca, Seville, Valencia, Valladolid and Zaragoza. Those are the 9 lucky cities that ‘The great trip of the big screen’ will visit, the name of the cycle with which the nominees and winners of the Goya Awards 2023 will travel through Spain.
Organized by Icárion and the Film Academy Foundation, the Goya winners Susi Sánchez, Alauda Ruiz de Azúa and Laura Galánthe winner Telmo Iruretathe nominees Carmen Machi, Alberto Rodríguez, Zoe Stein and Christian Checa and the protagonist of IratiEneko Sagardoywill be the luxury guests of these traveling projections.
‘The great journey of the big screen’ begins its itinerary in Malaga on May 25 and concludes in Palma de Mallorca on June 29. It is completely free and will take place in unique corners of the aforementioned cities: open-air squares, cinemas with history, theaters, universities, even an old prison, the Academy assures us.
The president of the Film Academy, Fernando Méndez-Leite, defines the purpose of this initiative as follows:
Sow the meaning of watching movies and integrate it as a daily activity in citizens. An adventure that, deep down, is a love song to the original cinema: that of the neighborhood cinemas that revealed to the men and women of the towns the great titles of the time. Given the difficult moment that cinemas are experiencing throughout Spain, they must reinvent themselves, anticipate changes and offer the viewer an extra plus.
For her part, Carmen Machi, one of the most illustrious companions of the projections, added:
It is super important to feel that there is still life in a film, after it has had its run in theaters, festivals, awards… That it has a second trip is very exciting, and the public also appreciates that you take it to their doorstep, it is closer and endearing.
These are the films and their corresponding projections with city and date:
Undoubtedly, a nice initiative to take the best Spanish cinema and its protagonists beyond Madrid, where the Film Academy regularly holds screenings open to the public with guests.
