Summer of 2010. Caroline Vignale spends a week walking in Cévenue with her family, accompanied by a donkey. His immense fascination with landscapes, which made him think especially of westerns and great adventure films, as well as the people he met there, planted in him the idea of comedy.
His main reference for writing the screenplay is apparently Robert Louis Stevenson’s Travels, Travel with a donkey in the CevennesPublished in 1879. It adds codes to the character of the film Friends and the romantic comedy, inspired by the character of Dolphin in Eric Rohmer’s Le Rayon vert.
Twenty years after her previous feature, Other Girls, Caroline Vinyall returns behind the camera to stage Antoinette in Seven. The director’s first choice, actress Lor Kalam, plays the lead role. A young woman who is completely dependent on her lover, who is ready to follow her on the road to Stevenson, accompanied by an unruly donkey, Patrick.
In the shoes of this modern heroine, both disturbing and terrifyingly funny, Laure Kalam carries this beautiful film on her shoulders, offering a real moment of escapism. True, her performance has been crowned with a Cesar for the best actress of 2021.
