Directed by Sam Raimi and starring Bruce Campbell, the Evil Dead franchise features a unique blend of horror and comedy. Over the years, the popularity of the franchise has only increased. The reboots have been released recently, demonstrating the strength and legacy of the saga. Next, let’s explore in more detail the films that make up this amazing franchise.
Evil Dead saga list
A Nightmare: The Devil’s Dead (1981)
In “A Night of Mind: The Demon’s Death”, a group of friends decide to spend a weekend in a secluded cabin in the woods. There they discover an ancient book, known as the “Necronomicon Ex-Mortis” or “Book of the Dead”, however, by playing an audio recording of the Book of the Dead, they awaken malevolent supernatural forces. These forces begin possessing their souls, turning them into violent demonic creatures.
Directed by a young Sam Raimi and starring Bruce Campbell, the film is considered a horror classic. Despite being produced on a modest budget, the film features imaginative camera movements and horror scenes with stunning practical special effects.
Nightmare 2 (1987)

“Bright Night 2” is a mix of sequel, parody and remake of the first film.
The work begins with a condensed summary of the events of the first film, but with some subtle plot changes: Ash and his girlfriend Linda go to a secluded cabin in the woods, where they find the Book of the Dead. When the recording of the spell plays, Ash becomes possessed by demonic forces.
Then the second chapter “begins”. Ash faces terrifying supernatural entities, including his own possessed hand. While he tries to survive, he fights against the forces of evil and tries to unlock the secrets of the book and defeat the curse.
Under the direction of Sam Raimi, this production marks the evolution of Ash Williams into a hero. Bruce Campbell gives an unforgettable performance, deftly combining physical humor and charisma. Ash’s journey from reluctant to brave in hilarious and terrifying moments, and iconic use of the chainsaw, has transformed him into a cult icon of pop culture.
This film features a distinct take on the first entry, which is more comedic, satirical, and self-aware.
Nightmare 3 (1992)

Ash is pulled through a portal in the final scene of the previous film and ends up being transported to the Middle Ages. There, he is captured by a warring army and forced to fight off a mob of the undead. Equipped with his legendary chainsaw, Ash faces many obstacles to find the Book of the Dead and return to his time.
Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell close out the initial trilogy in this entertaining film that keeps the humor, awkward satire and “shit” and adds a dash of action.
Demon Death (2013)

Released 21 years after the previous film, this film was directed by Fede Alvarez and serves as a reboot of the franchise. The film presents a new take on the story, but maintains the central premise of a group of young men facing demonic forces in a secluded cabin in the woods.
In the synopsis, five young men spend a weekend in a remote cabin in the woods. Mia, the protagonist, is a young woman struggling with drug addiction. She goes to the cabin with her brother David and a group of friends to support her as she tries to kick her addiction. When they discover the Book of the Dead in the basement, they accidentally awaken an evil demonic force that begins possessing each of them.
Despite being a reboot, the film makes references and homages to the previous films.
Ash vs Evil Dead (2015-2018)

‘Ash vs Evil Dead’ is a horror comedy television series created by Sam Raimi and is a direct continuation of the original trilogy. It picks up the story of Ash Williams, played once again by Bruce Campbell, decades after the events of the films.
In the storyline, Ash is a department store employee who, by chance, re-reads the “Necronomicon Ex-Mortis”. This act triggers the resurrection of the undead, bringing with it a renewed blight of destruction. Now, Ash is forced to once again face these creatures and fight to save humanity.
The series maintains the trashy atmosphere and horror-comedy tone of the previous films. Ash faces absurd situations, cracks sarcastic jokes, and uses his famous chainsaw and custom-built shotgun to battle the forces of evil. In addition, he is accompanied by new characters who join him on his journey.
