The DeLorean from ‘Back to the Future’ Gets Modernized With a Cutting-Edge Electric Concept in ‘Fast and Furious 10’

At this stage, The ‘Fast and Furious’ saga has little left to do. From its origins in street racing, the film series has evolved into a quasi-sci-fi, international spy, action movie franchise, with cars flying between skyscrapers or rocketing into space. There has even been speculation about a crossover with the dinosaurs from ‘Jurassic World’ and everything already seems possible, but would the franchise go back in time? Or ‘Back to the Future’?

Ok, we are cheating. This photo is of an innocent by April 1 of a few years ago engineered by IGN, but it does not seem that we are very far from becoming a reality. Maybe we’re freaking out too much already, but what’s certain is that director Louis Leterrier and the ‘Fast and Furious X’ team have resorted to a vehicle famous for its ability to travel through time: the DeLorean.

Moviegoers will be more than familiar with the DeLorean brand from its unforgettable role in the ‘Back to the Future’ franchisein which Doc Brown equips the vehicle with a flux capacitor that helps him travel through time by reaching 142 kilometers per hour. ‘Fast & Furious’ wanted to take the tribute a little further by bringing a DeLorean FROM THE FUTURE. Specifically, the DeLorean Alpha 5a car that has never been marketed since it is, for the moment, only a prototype of the company.

In an interview with Steve Weintraub of ColliderLeterrier explained how they got a prototype DeLorean for the movie and why the idea arose. He explained that he wanted to have fun with the audience and make fun of the concept of time travel:

“It was hard to pull off, yes. It ended up in the movie because… People thought that after we went to space, we were going to travel in time.. [Risas] Just like, after space travel was going to be time travel. And then I thought, ‘Oh, I’ll make people go crazy making the DeLorean stop and shoes come out that look futuristic’and so I thought, ‘Oh yeah, we’re going to have fun with all that.

Leterrier added: “I mean, it’s ‘Fast & Furious’ so, you know, it’s a movie with the best cars. You have to call some people. In the case of the DeLorean it’s complex, it’s finding out who’s right since there are like two companies fighting for the DeLorean name, so we found the real one and they were, you know… It was great. That car is going to be amazing, it’s going to be absolutely amazing. It was incredible. I was like, ‘Ahh, I’m having fun today.'”

Not another thing, but Leterrier had a great time playing with the cars of the franchise and adding the nod to one of the best science fiction movies in history. Will time travel in the ‘Fast and Furious’ saga ever come true? Maybe in ‘Fast and Furious X Part 2’? Is that the explanation that supposedly deceased characters are returning all the time?
