PF fulfills operational warrants investigating acts of coup in Brasilia


Operation Lesa Pátria is in its twelfth phase and fulfilling arrest, search and seizure warrants




The Federal Police launched, on Tuesday 22, the 12th phase of Operation Lesa Pátria, which seeks to identify people who participated in, financed, omitted or encouraged coup acts in Brasilia, Federal District, on 8 January.

The PF is serving two pre-trial arrest warrants and four search and seizure warrants, issued by the STF.

TV Globo reported that the targets are the military police who gave the order to retreat before the descent to the Federal Court (STF).

At the time Palazzo Planalto, the National Congress and the Federal Court were violently invaded by private individuals, who vandalized furniture, buildings and objects owned by the institutions.

According to the PF, the facts investigated constitute, in theory, the crimes of violent abolition of the democratic rule of law, coup d’état, qualified damage, criminal association, incitement to crime, destruction and deterioration or destruction of particularly protected assets.

The investigation is still ongoing and Operation Lesa Pátria is permanent, with regular updates on the number of orders issued, people captured and fugitives.

Operation Lesa Patria

On 11 May, the 11th phase of the operation was launched, during which 22 search and seizure warrants related to suspicions of financing terrorist acts were executed. The searches took place in Mato Grosso do Sul, São Paulo and Paraná.

Among the targets were businessmen, rural producers and arms collectors (CAC).

In all, in the 10 previous phases of Operation Lesa Patria, the following were achieved:

• 65 preventive arrest warrants (no defined duration);

• 4 provisional arrest warrants (for a fixed term);

• 174 search and seizure warrants;

• 17 police investigations launched.
