Natalie Portman Wants to Return to Star Wars, But ‘Nobody Asked’

Natalie Portman played Padmé in the Star Wars prequels

Natalie Portman talked about returning to star in a film of Star Wars. His last appearance in the franchise was almost 20 years ago, in the feature film The Revenge of the Sith (2005). In an interview with QA (via indiewire), the actress revealed that she would like to return to the franchise, but has not been called so far.

“I have no information about that. No one has ever asked me to come back, but I’m open,” the interpreter of Padmé Amidala stated.

portman starred in the first three episodes of Star Wars, The Phantom Menace (1999), Attack of the Clones (2002) and The Revenge of the Sith. Her character was queen of the planet Naboo, and later became a Senator of the Galactic Republic. Furthermore, she married Anakin Skywalker (Hayden Christensen)that became Darth Vader after his death.

Although she did not receive a formal invitation to return to the franchise, the actress went through a peculiar situation when approached by Taika Waititiwho is directing a project of Star Wars. The filmmaker forgot about the participation of portman in previous films and suggested a new role for her.

“One day on set, Natalie asked me what my next film would be. I said, ‘I’m trying to do this project Star Wars. Have you ever wanted to be in a movie Star Wars?’. And she replied: ‘I’ve already made films of Star Wars.’ I had completely forgotten about it,” he recalled in an interview with Rolling Stone USA.

portman commented on the situation: “I thought he was joking. He always makes these kind of jokes. Afterwards, he said in an interview that he was dying of embarrassment.”
